Tigers will make the final five

Offensive coordinator Billy Napier was in Georgia to watch the Monroe High School spring game and one of the top uncommitted defensive ends in the Purple and White game, but something came up.

Actually, something came down. Rain, and there was a lot of it.

"He was there, but it got cancelled," Stephon Tuitt told CUTigers recently.

"There was heavy rain and a thunderstorm. But I saw him there. He was talking to coach (Matthew) Figg afterward."

It was the second time that Napier was down earlier during the evaluation period. On the previous trip, he was accompanied by defensive ends Chris Rumph.

Scout.com ranks Tuitt as the No. 17 ranked defensive end in the class of 2011 and rates him with four stars.

"Their interest in me is really high," Tuitt said. "They offered me on Sept. 1 of 2009. It's 2010. They really want me and I'm keeping Clemson on my list."

A couple of others currently occupy spots on that list.

Georgia Tech, Georgia, Notre Dame, Florida and Auburn are on the list too.

"There's not really a top five. I won't narrow a top five, probably until June," Tuitt said. "Notre Dame is going to be in there. When I start going down to a five, Clemson will be in my five too."

As he looks to wade through his offers, Tuitt has several criteria he's considering.

"I want to go to a school with a great football program. Every one of those schools is a real good school. I'm looking at the coaches, if I have a good relationship with the coaches and a great environment," Tuitt said.

Once a top five is announced, he'll begin scheduling the official visits.

"After I make all five of my official visits, and I've looked at each school really closely, I'll be sure that it's the right decision," Tuitt said.
