C Ryan Norton Profile
"Yes, I just committed," Norton told CUTigers moments ago.
The three-star center is currently ranked as the No. 14 center in the nation according to Scout.com.
He chose the Tigers over offers from Georgia Tech, Maryland, South Carolina and N.C. State.
Norton said he had a gut feeling from the moment the Mauldin spring game started
Friday night but didn't necessarily wake up Friday morning and think, ‘I'm going to
"I didn't fully know. I had a feeling, but right when the game started, I
kind of did (know)," Norton said.
After the game, that's when he pulled the trigger.
"I called up coach [Danny] Pearman, who came to the game, I told him. Then
he got coach [Dabo] Swinney on the phone and I talked to him," Norton
"They were just telling me how much they appreciate it, how excited they
were that I'm going to be a part of their family."
Every visit he's taken to Clemson has felt almost like home. That's what
made the Tigers so appealing.
"I kind of feel like it's a second home. I love the family atmosphere,
love the coaching staff," he said. "Everything is perfect."
Norton plans to head back to Tigertown for camp later this summer. Which
session he'll attend is still in the air.
"He's just a blessing for us…we couldn't have asked for anything better right there, we get to snap all the time," Mauldin head coach Doug Shaw told CUTigers earlier this month.
"He's kind of reserved, but when it comes to the weight room on the field, when it's time to get something done and he's got his mind set on whatever it is he's doing, he's wide-open doing it.
"He's the kind of guy, if he's sitting in my office, if you don't ask him a question, he might not talk. An awesome kid, we love having him around."
Norton is the ninth public verbal commitment to the Clemson coaching staff in the 2011 class.
