C John Cannon Profile
CUTigers spoke with Mountain Heritage High School (Burnsville) center John Cannon about his recruitment and plans for the summer.
"It was just recent," he said of the interest from Clemson. "They called me and just started recruiting me now."
Although the interest from Brownell's staff is fairly new, Cannon is very familiar with Clemson.
"I know quite a bit about Clemson. I've been down there a couple of times and seen the campus on the way to and from tournaments," he said. "I know they've had a great basketball program."
Clemson isn't the only high-major program that he's received recruiting interest from lately.
Wake Forest, Stanford, Indiana and Utah have Cannon on their respective radars, along with a few Ivy League schools.
"I have offers from UNC Asheville, App. State, Western Carolina, USC Upstate and UNC Wilmington—places like that," he said.
Interest from schools from the power conferences is starting to pick up for Cannon.
"I've been working on my game. I'm stronger. During the season I feel like they were more focused on their own season," he said. "Now that they're season are over, they have more time to get to know me better and get started in the recruited process."
This summer, he plans to hit four elite camps: Tennessee, Indiana, Wake Forest and Florida.
He'll be looking for several criteria when evaluating schools.
"If I get along with all of the staff and all the players…I want to go somewhere with a good basketball program and academics are important too," Cannon said.
As a junior at Mountain Heritage, Cannon averaged 17.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
