Under the radar QB takes in Clemson

Another name has been added to the Clemson 2011 quarterback board after an impressive showing during Thursday's afternoon session at the Dabo Swinney Camp.

QB Carson Barnett Profile

Landmark Christian School (Ga.) quarterback Carson Barnett was invited to stop in Clemson for a visit and appearance at Thursday's camp.

CUTigers caught up with shortly after wrapping up on the field workouts in front of offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Billy Napier.

"He said I definitely made the board, as far as recruiting," Barnett said. "I'm on the short board. He told me he'll let me know something in the first two or three weeks."

Though he has no offers to this point, Barnett feels he's close to picking at least up two.

"Vanderbilt and Wake Forest are real interested and I definitely feel like they could offer real soon," he said.

Thursday's trip to Clemson is one of several he'll be making over the next week.

"After Wake Forest, I'm going to Tennessee. Then two days off, I'm going to Elon and East Carolina," Barnett said.

Now he's "just trying to find a place to go play."

"Growing up I've always wanted to play college football," Barnett said.

Last fall, he visited Georgia, Auburn, Alabama and Vanderbilt for unofficial trips to games.

Thursday's trip to Clemson made an impression.

"I loved it," Barnett said. "This is the first time I've really been up here. I've been up for a game, but this is completely different. I've been able to go back and look at the facilities. It's completely different. The atmosphere and coaches are all great—everything."

As a junior, Barnett threw for 1,300 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions while running mostly an I-formation offense. His numbers are expected to increase this season as Landmark Christian switches to the spread.
