Top SC Safety Gets Clemson Offer

When talking about the top safety prospects in the south for the class of 2004, Mike Hamlin's name has to be mentioned. Hamlin registered 96 tackles and a whopping 10 interceptions as a junior, and he also just received his first offer from the Clemson Tigers.

"Clemson has already offered him a scholarship," said Lamar Head Coach J.R. Boyd. "I think pretty much everyone in the SEC and ACC is after him right now. He's just a tremendous athlete. I think he could be a division 1 player in football, basketball, and baseball."

Hamlin is now in the beginning of his baseball season, and his team is off to a 4-0 start. He finished that basketball season averaging close to 17 points per game. When asked about his favorite sport, Hamlin said it was probably round ball.

"I probably like basketball the best," said Hamlin, "but I think my future is in football. I've already been to Clemson for their junior day, and I am going to Tennessee this weekend. My favorite teams right now are probably Clemson, South Carolina, Maryland, Tennessee, and Virginia. I don't really have a favorite out of that group yet."

With 10 interceptions as a junior, it wasn't hard to predict what Hamlin would say when asked what he thought he did best on the football field.

"I think I read the quarterback pretty well."

He certainly does, and this year, it's a safe bet that the quarterback is going to try and read the free safety more.
