NC DE still on Clemson's radar

Jack Britt High School (Fayetteville, N.C.) already has one 2011 prospect committed to join Clemson's upcoming recruiting class. Sites are set on adding a second to the Tigers' group.

DT Devonte Brown Profile

Senior defensive tackle Devonte Brown regularly gets the recruiting pitch from tight end Eric MacLain.

But, at the same time, MacLain also reminds his friend that the decision is up to him.

"Eric tells me to follow my heart and just find out which school is good for me," Brown said. "He also has a little bug in my ear about going to Clemson. It's mainly to just follow my heart."

It's been a quiet summer thus far for Brown, who's only been to the Shrine Bowl combine and a camp at North Carolina.

"Really, I've been working hard, just getting ready for this season," he said.

There are high hopes around the Jack Britt program this summer. After finishing as the North Carolina 4A state runner-up in 2009, the Buccaneers are gunning for another shot at a state title.

"We're going to play our hardest, keep focused and just try to win state," Brown said.

No trips for the latter part of this summer have been set, but any potential visits will be discussed before any are scheduled.

"I don't really know of any," Brown said. "I just have to talk with my mom and we'll take it from there."

With upwards of 20 offers, Clemson, Florida, North Carolina, Auburn and Virginia Tech are among those that have invited him to sign this February.

"I don't have any favorites. I'm just trying to keep my options open," Brown said.

Though he's yet to schedule any official visits or make any concrete decisions about those, there is one place in mind that Brown would like to visit officially.

"I know one of them I'm going to is Florida. I don't really know. I just have to talk it over with my mom. We'll have to plan it out," he said.

Brown is currently ranked as the No. 43 defensive end in the country by and also rated three stars. Top Stories
