S Cortez Davis Profile
Mainland High School cornerback Cortez Davis committed to Clemson last fall when he and high school teammate and fellow 2011 Clemson commit Marlin Lane were in town for the Wake Forest game.
Four months later, he switched to the in-state Seminoles. In July, Davis decided once again that he wanted to be a Tiger.
CUTigers recently caught up with Davis, who possesses rare size (6-3 ¾) for someone who'll be playing cornerback at the next level.
"I'm the biggest corner in the nation. But I'm going to have to adjust when I'm going against a smaller, quicker guy," he said. "I'll have to back up against them. If it's against a bigger receiver, I'll jam him up. It all depends on what kind of defense we're running at Clemson, though."
Davis said opportunities for interceptions were at a premium during his junior year.
"At my height, most people don't throw my way anyway. Like last year, I only had three interceptions. They just went away from me," he said.
Now starting to prepare for his senior year, Davis will be playing both ways again this fall. He will line up at cornerback on defense and wide receiver on offense.
As for friends and family asking Davis why he's back on board with Clemson, he said there haven't been many questioning his decision.
"They like that I went back there, everybody," he said.
Plans are already in the works for another trip back to Clemson.
"I'm going to the Miami game," Davis said. "We're all going. Me, (Lane) and I might be taking my cousin up there, too."
Officially, Davis is ranked as the No. 29 safety in the nation according to Scout.com. He's also rated three stars.
