Clemson Not Selected for the NIT

In somewhat of a surprising announcement, it was learned late Sunday evening that the Clemson Tigers were not selected to play in the National Invitational Tournament, otherwise known as the NIT.

"We are very disappointed that we were not selected for the NIT," said head coach Larry Shyatt. "I thought our players deserved an invitation. I am disappointed for the entire team, but especially for the seniors. "I am surprised. It is very rare for an ACC team with a .500 or better record not to be invited since the NIT went to 32 teams in 1980."

With the annoucement that the 2002-03 season is now over, speculation about the future of head coach Larry Shyatt will now run rampant amongst Clemson fans.

Shyatt is expected to meet with Clemson Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips as soon as this week to determine which direction the program will go from here.

Most experts agree that he has likely coached his last game at Clemson University. Top Stories
