It's to Southern California.

"I'm going out to USC for an official next month," Townsend said. "They are the only official I've scheduled so far. I was originally supposed to be going out there on Sept. 11 for their first home game, but we had a conflict so I am going to the next home game, against Washington on Oct. 2, I think."

"I'm really excited to get out there and see what its like," he added. "I've never been to California and only have seen pictures of the campus and what I've seen on TV, so its going to be great to actually see it all in person."

Townsend said that the recent sanctions against the Trojans aren't an issue for's No. 12 outside linebacker. "USC is a great program with a lot of tradition and a great coaching staff. I've heard a lot about the whole Reggie Bush thing, but all that isn't going to change anything for me.

"I scheduled USC first because the coaches really wanted to get my official visit in early," he added. "Coach (Joe) Barry (linebackers) wanted me to take it early, on Sept. 11, but I had something that weekend and couldn't do it. My family is coming with me and Oct.2 was just better for all of us."

Aside from USC, Townsend says he's also very interested in Florida (already visited), South Carolina, Clemson and LSU.

"I don't have a top five list even though everyone keeps asking me about it. I'm interested in whoever is interested in me the most," he said.

"Any D1 or D2 school will give you a good education. All these coaches have been around and know recruiting, so there's not much difference between any of them. Football is going to be football anywhere you go.

"I'm looking for my fit. Trusting the coaches and finding that right fit is what I'm looking for on my visits."

Townsend said he planning on unofficially visiting Clemson and South Carolina later this week.

"I'm hoping to get to [South] Carolina on Thursday and Clemson on Saturday, but it's still up in the air. It depends on what my coach says if I'll have time. That's all the visits I have planned right now."

Townsend plans on majoring in business and reports a 3.1 core GPA. He is scheduled to take the ACT in November. Top Stories
