Emilien still coming to Boulder?

Former Michigan safety Vlad Emilien left that program early this season and vowed to transfer to Colorado after visiting the Boulder campus in October. What are his thoughts in the wake of the coaching shakeup with the black, silver and gold? Get inside for more.

Vlad Emilien said he recently received word from new Colorado coach Jon Embree that his scholarship offer at CU would not be honored.

Emilien said he was disappointed in the news but is moving on with an eye toward two programs, Maryland and Southern Miss.

Emilien's pledge to be a Buff was supposedly tied to the fate of former secondary coach Ashley Ambrose. However, Emilien said he was still planning to be a Buff even after learning Ambrose was not retained as part of the 2011 coaching staff.

Emilien said Ambrose encouraged him to remain with the Buffs because his mentor, Greg Brown, was returning to the program as defensive coordinator.

Emilien said the decision not to honor the offer from the former CU coaching staff was explained to him this way:"I was informed by coach Embree that they don't need a safety, they need corners," Emilien said.

Emilien had played in five games in 2009 at Michigan and played sparingly against Connecticut this season before deciding he wanted out of Michigan. He said he still hopes to be with a new program by early January.
