Another frustrating loss

Colorado jumped out to a 17-point lead playing with a confident spirit on the road today at Baylor, but surrendered the lead late in the game and left the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas, with a sour taste after losing 70-66 to the Bears.

Just two weeks ago Colorado fans were wondering when their team might break into the top 25. Now the idea seems laughable after CU lost its fourth consecutive contest to fall to 14-8 overall and 3-4 in the Big 12 Conference.

Sophomore Alec Burks led the Buffs with 20 points. Senior Cory Higgins finished with 16 and missed a go-ahead 3-pointer with less than 20 seconds remaining.

CU dominated the first half, but Baylor rallied as soon as it emerged from the locker room with a 7-0 run. The Bears continue to whittle the Buffs' lead and finally captured the lead with slightly less than 3 minutes remaining thanks to a LaceDarius Dunn.

Dunn then hit six consecutive free throws to send the Buffs back to Boulder with their 34th loss on the road in the Big 12 in the last 36 conference road games over the past five seasons.

The Buffs's hopes of making the NCAA Tournament appear all but lost at this point short of winning the conference tournament in March to guarantee a berth. The Buffs play host to Iowa State at the Coors Events Center on Tuesday.
