The victory, CU's 20th of the year, came less than a week after the Buffs lost to the Cyclones in Ames, Iowa. It also boosted the Buffs' hopes of making the NCAA Tournament field next week regardless of what happens the rest of the way in CU's final Big 12 tournament.
Alec Burks came on strong in the second half, scoring 25 of his points after intermission. The performance came near his childhood home and in the city where his father grew up.
Colorado will play Kansas State early Thursday afternoon. The Buffs have beaten the fourth-seeded Wildcats in two previous meetings this season and will try to nab a third victory and advance to the semifinals for the first time in Colorado history.
Senior Cory Higgins scored 16 points with four rebounds and was the only other Buff to score in double figures besides Burks.
The Buffs out-rebounded the Cyclones 48-36 and scored 51 points in the second half.
