The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder has his list narrowed down to a handful of schools.
"I think right now I'm down to seven with LSU, Tulane, Miami, Stanford, Notre Dame, Colorado and UCLA," Richard told Tiger Rag. "I've got offers from all except Miami. I talked to them about it but I haven't gotten the official offer."
Is there a leader?
"Not really," he said. "I'm wide open."
Richard was nearly impossible to block last season and his stats prove it. He totaled 82 tackles, 12 sacks, 29 tackles for a loss and forced seven fumbles from his defensive tackle spot. The honors rolled in following his superb season with a first team selection on All-District, All-River Parish and All-State teams.
What is his secret to success?
"I think my speed and power," said Richard, who reports a 305-pound bench press. "I'm used to handling a lot of doubles and breaking them and making plays out of them. It seems like I get off the ball real well."
The Destrehan product plans on making one of LSU coach Nick Saban's summer camps in July, but until then he just plans on working on some things on his own.
"I want to get faster because I think I might be able to move out to the end spot," said Richard, who has 4.9 speed in the 40-yard dash. "But also, I want to get stronger and maximize my strength on the field. Not just get big numbers in the weight room but actually use it on the field."
After growing up a Florida State fan, Richard said he does not have a team that he follows closely because he just loves the game in general.
Richard has always been an excellent student and projects as a full qualifer.
