Brother Of CU Player Found Dead

Tragedy struck the Colorado football family when CU red shirt freshman Thad Washington's brother was found dead Sunday in New Orleans. A fund has been set-up to help with funeral costs.

BOULDER - A fund has been established to help the family of University of Colorado redshirt freshman linebacker Thaddaeus Washington cover the cost of funeral expenses.

Andrew Washington, 24, was murdered outside of New Orleans sometime Sunday, according to the county medical examiner; his body was found the next day.

Thad Washington is the youngest of four children, and one more brother, a sister, and Washington's mother, Lottie, are listed as Andrews' survivors.

Thad Washington prepped at Marrero's John Ehret High School, and enters the fall listed at 6-0, 235 pounds after redshirting his true freshman season in 2002. Marrero is a suburb of New Orleans.

The Andrew Washington Funeral Fund has been set through up Wells Fargo of Boulder, which will administer the account. Those who wish to help the family can do so by sending a contribution to:

The Andrew Washington Funeral Fund, c/o Wells Fargo, 1242 Pearl Street, Boulder, CO 80302. Questions can be directed to either Darina Barciak (303-441-0352) or Laural Grauff (303-441-0291).

CU is only permitted to cover the cost of sending Thad Washington home to be with his family (he returned Monday). However, NCAA rules do allow for the above public fundraiser to be established to help defray expenses the family will have with the funeral home.

The funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. this Saturday, July 5, at New Bethel Baptist Church (1822 Brown Street, Harvey, LA 70058). Davis Mortuary (230 Monroe Street, Gretna, LA 70053) is handling all arrangements.
