Scout: Coming into camp, there is pretty stiff competition at quarterback. How are you feeling about your chances going into it?
Hirschman: I feel good about my chances coming into this. Coaches are giving us a fair shake and the guy who is going to come out of here (with the starting job) will be the best competitor and be the best leader and make the least mistakes.
Scout: You've had well-documented foot problems. How are your feet?
Hirschman: My feet are doing fantastic. I was 100 percent right when summer started. I've just been rehabbing and doing all that good stuff. I think our strength staff is amazing. I've been working with them a lot just trying to get my lower body strength back and my speed back. I feel real good.
Scout: How much better are you now than you were last year?
Hirschman: I think I've improved a bunch. Having that game experience, you can't replace that: going out there and being able to see the speed of the game and being able to play in front of a lot of people and seeing how that feels. Just improving mentally and physically, it's been a (lot of) progress for me over the last year.
Scout: Can you learn a lot from struggles in games from last year?
Hirschman: Oh definitely. There's a lot of room for improvement everywhere in my game last year. I've really focused on those areas and now I feel they're pretty big strengths for me.
Scout: Tell me something good about the two guys you're competing with.
Hirschman: Connor (Wood) is a real nice guy, he's very smart in his (play)book and he's a great competitor. Jordan (Webb) brings a lot of experience to the table and he throws the ball very well and he's also a great guy. We're good friends.
Scout: What can Buffs fans be excited about if you get this job?
Hirschman: You're going to see somebody who is going to come out and lead this team, driving down the field – a tough guy who is not going to be afraid to run somebody over and also not going to be afraid to stand in the pocket and take a hit and deliver a ball.
Scout: Are you ready to be the starting quarterback?
Hirschman: Yes I am, sir.
