A four-year starter knows a thing or two about how to play football.
Elijah Rodriguez, an offensive tackle for Cypress Creek High School in Cypress, Texas, is a rare combination of humility and talent. A 4 year varsity starter, Rodriguez played for a different school his freshman year before transferring to Cypress Creek.
"My freshman year I went to a Christian school, but I decided to change schools sophomore year to give myself more athletic challenges". The move paid off, seeing as the 6-6, 270lb lineman has received 10 offers so far during his recruiting process. Rodriguez has received offers from Colorado, Arizona State, Central Florida, New Mexico State, Fresno State, Arkansas State, Tulsa, Kansas, Texas State, and Nevada.
"I've really been enjoying the recruiting process so far. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I'd get this many offers. It's been a huge blessing for me and my family and I'm really excited," Elijah says. The blessing is making him really appreciate the recruiting done by the CU coaching staff up to this point. "I've been talking with Coach Walters. He and I keep in contact and I keep him informed on everything going on. But Coach MacIntyre was the one who extended the offer to play at CU," Rodriguez says.
When asked about the Buffs new head coach, Rodriguez commented, "I really like what Coach MacIntyre does. I think he has a great chance of picking up the program".
So far in his top 5, Rodriguez has Colorado, Arizona State, Nevada, Central Florida, and Tulsa. "I have Tulsa in their because they have a really good engineering program, which is important", he says. However, his interest in CU is apparently quite high.
"The coaches are a great group of Christians. They are good people and great coaches. I feel if I had the opportunity to play there, I could be one of the guys that helps rebuild the program to be extremely successful. I've also always loved Colorado. Boulder is beautiful and I think it would be great to go to school at CU".
Elijah and the Cypress Creek Cougars open their season on the road September 5th at Klein Oak.
