This past Saturday the Colorado Buffaloes football team came out of the locker room in full pads for the first time this fall.
After a bright and early 8:30 start to practice , the squad embraced media day inside the air conditioned Dal Ward athletic facility.
BuffPlaybook.com took full advantage of media day, getting the opportunity to sit down with tailback Tony Jones. The 5' 7'', 190 lb junior, rushed for 320 yards and 3 touchdowns during his sophomore campaign in 2012.
Buff Playbook.com: After a week of fall training camp, what do you think is the biggest difference between 2012 camp and this years camp?
Tony Jones: "The pace that we're running is much faster and we're getting a lot more plays in a certain amount of minutes. It's pretty much the pace really."
BPB: Who has stood out the most to you in the backfield?
TJ: "All of the halfbacks are pretty good. Our coaches wouldn't recruit them if they weren't good. I think all of the halfbacks have the potential to do something big within the next couple of years. We're young so we've definitely got a lot of time. We're tough so we're not going to fall down for anybody."
BPB: How do you guys feel about the public and the media's perception of Colorado Football after last year?
TJ:"We don't really listen to it. As players we try to get together and stay out of the media and looking at the internet to see what people are saying. We just really try to play our game."
BP: Do you feel bigger, stronger, and faster this fall?
TJ: "Yeah, I gained a couple pounds. Our strength coach (Dave Forman) is definitely doing a great thing with us. "
BPB: What is your personal goal for the fall?
TJ: "Take it game by game and don't think about the next week as well as focus on what we've got to accomplish that week."
BPB: What is the team goal for the 2013 season?
TJ: "Finish the game, play all four quarters, play our hearts out, and go get a victory."
The team started two a days today as the Rocky Mountain Showdown is quickly approaching. Stay tuned for more Buff's Football coverage, especially our radio show at 9:30 MT which covers, analyzes, and breaks down each day of fall camp just for you.
