With just a week away from the Buffaloes first game, the team announced today their 2-deep depth chart, with the big question being at the quarterback position.
Connor Wood, although focusing on his preparation for the Colorado State Rams game this Sunday September 1st, was relieved to see his name on top the depth chart.
"It's always a good feeling to see your name on the top of the depth chart and I am ready for this opportunity." Wood said. "I have been waiting for this moment since last years Utah game."
Coach MaCIntyre emphasized his commitment to Connor Wood as the Buffaloes 2013-2014 starting quarterback but did not shy away from mentioning his true freshman backup Liufau. In this new era of football and our awareness over player concussions, Coach MacIntyre has to treat his backup players nearly as his starters.
"I have not gone a season without a quarterback getting hurt, and I don't know if many people do anymore," Coach MacIntyre stated. "Were going to get Sefo ready to play, get him a ton of reps, I am not going to throw him in the game unless something's going wrong."
With that being said, Connor Wood knows the quarterback position is always in jeopardy, and that he has to remain confident through the season despite the outcome.
"Confidence is going to be key for me and my play," Wood voiced. "You're going to go into the season and there are going to be ups and downs, and the most important thing for a quarterback is to stay even keeled and level headed through the highs and the lows and not to get to high nor to low. And as Chairman Bloom told us, ‘you have to have a mind of a river,' where nothing sticks, like a bad play or a mental error."
Wood's first test will be this Sunday for the first time in his collegiate career, and as long as he remains true to himself and healthy, the Buffaloes won't be seeing any other quarterbacks behind center this season.
