- Techniques and Moves
This versatile defender out of the Sunshine State flashes impressive acceleration and a nice burst when shooting towards the ball carrier, and just does a good job of coming off the ball with quickness. Wells is a relentless defender that plays with a whole lot of passion and energy once it's time to clock in on the football field.
Wells, who shows good backside pursuit to the football, is also disruptive by anticipating and tipping balls at the line of scrimmage. He currently plays with his hand in the dirt at defensive end, but will likely shift back to outside linebacker once it's time to officially team up with the Buffaloes.
You also have to take notice of Wells' ability to gain leverage and bust through and split double teams. He'll obviously have to continue to pack on weight and get stronger, but does a good job of pumping his legs and providing that nonstop motor. Wells also shows no problem changing direction when reading and reacting to the ball. He flashes that quick-twitch once flipping his hips and accelerating.
Overall, Wells is an impressive, smooth athlete that does a great job of making plays around the line of scrimmage. Wells is instinctive and shows active hands to bat down balls, but also impresses with his ability to fly around in space and consistently throw a hat on the football.
This speedy rising senior has to continue to attack the weight room and season up his ability in pass coverage, but overall, this is an impressive under-the-radar addition for Mike MacIntyre's coaching staff.
