Klatt Named CU Starting QB / Kicker Picked As Well

With the CSU game only eleven days away, Head Coach Gary Barnett has avoided a quarterback controversy and named Joel Klatt his starter. The Buffs kickoff the season August 30th at 5:45 MT.

Sophomore QB Joel Klatt entered the fall penciled in as the Buffs starting quarterback, but that status was dependant on how he took control of the offense.

After playing well in Saturday's scrimmage, Klatt's name has been put in permanant marker. Head Coach Gary Barnett named Klatt his starter for the game with Colorado State, beating out redshirt freshamn James Cox.

The walk-on quarterback had impressive numbers in the three major team scrimmages. Klatt went 27 for 42 for 326 yards and two touchdowns and threw only one interception. He also was never sacked, something Barnett was very impressed with.

"Joel (Klatt) has been slowly separating himself all camp," Barnett said.

"In Saturday's scrimmage he handled himself real well and solidified things with the starting quarterback role. He gets rid of the ball and does all the right things to run our offense."

Another position in the spotlight was the battle for CU's place kicking between Mason Crosby and Kevin Eberhart.

True freshman Crosby has been given the field goal and PAT duties after strong performances in the Buff scrimmages. He nailed a 40-plus yard field goal on Saturday.

The decision will give Crosby, who is from Georgetown, Texas, the confidence of knowing he is the number one guy entering the season.

11 days and counting Buff fans until we see what these guys can do in game situations.
