Colorado is One of Three Offers for Harris

The last player CU pulled out of the state of Washington went on to become a first round NFL draft pick in Tyler Brayton. CU has not been as familiar with the Northwest since recruiting Tyler and other players like Victor Rogers and Ty Gregorak. They seem to be making a comeback in the area as prospects like Decatur's Darin Harris are now on their list. Darin's coach compares him to some great players.

This was a statement made by his head coach to Greg Biggins of Student Sports.

"I coached John Lynch (Tampa Bay Bucs safety) in high school and I think Darin can be better," Decatur head coach and former Vista (Calif.) coach Rik Haines said. "My dad (Dick Haines) coached the late Sal Aunese (Colorado QB) in high school and always said Sal was the best high school player he has ever seen. I'm telling you, Darin is better. I really believe Darin is the best football player in the state. He's a great athlete, a leader and a winner."

That is some unbelievable praise given by Darin's coach and it seems as if Darin is worthy of it. As a junior he rushed for 1,235 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also passed for 619 yards and six more TD's. Harris was also a standout on defense registering 61 tackles, three interceptions, and two sacks. He earned all-league, all-area, and city offensive player of the year for his work.

His work has also earned him scholarship offers from Colorado, Washington, and Oregon State. Coach Dave Borbely is recruiting him for the Buffs. He has not spoken with any coaches since Monday. As for what he likes about Colorado Darin says,"I like the people there. You hear a lot about their tradition too. I don't know much more about them but I do want to find out."

The teams in his top five are CU, Oregon State, Washington, Oregon, and Nebraska.

Harris will play quarterback and free safety for Decatur this year and says he has no preference on a position. He also says that most schools like him as an athlete. Darin has no official visits scheduled at this time.

He was not sure of his core GPA right now but does say he has a passing SAT score. He is undecided on a major. His team begins their season tomorrow night versus Curtis.
