For 10-plus seasons, beginning in 1998, Ralphie IV led the Colorado Buffaloes onto the field on game day. Just a month away from her 20th birthday, the beloved live buffalo mascot passed away from complications due to liver failure.
Ralphie IV, who was also affectionately known as “Rowdy,” will be buried at an undisclosed location in Henderson, Colo., where she spent her retirement grazing on a green pasture.
Her successor Ralphie V, who was given the name “Blackout,” is in good health as Colorado fans observed during the Buffaloes' spring game last weekend. The University will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ralphie program this Oct. 28 during Colorado's homecoming game against Cal.
