Recent CU LB Offer has Buffs in Second

Colorado knows it's linebackers as it can be argued that CU is Linebacker U. A LB the CU staff thinks can carry on that tradition is Maurice Cantrell from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. "Not really," said Cantrell when asked if him and Adrian would be a package deal. "We are friends but chances are we will go our seperate ways."

Cantrell has spoken with CU linebacker coach Brian Cabral three times this month already and is planning on visiting Boulder for the Kansas game. He will also visit Iowa State sometime in December and may visit Purdue as well. ISU is his only other offer and they are the team to beat as of now.

"Iowa State offered me first and I have been around their coaches a lot more than coaches at other schools so that has helped them. Colorado is my number two school, Iowa is number three, and Purdue is number four. Those are the schools I am most serious about right now."

ISU is recruiting him the hardest. Cantrell is attracted to CU for many reasons.

"Their coaches seem really down to earth. I heard Gary Barnett speak last year and he was real point blank. They have a program that looks after their players very well academically and that is impressive. I also like that the LB coach has NFL experience."

Although Maurice has Iowa State as number one he says he would have no problem with leaving the state borders for school.

"I only moved here three years ago from Maryland and before that I lived in Atlanta. So I am used to moving around a lot and my parents would also have no problem with me leaving. They know that it is my decision."

In addition to LB, Maurice plays running back for Washington and has a rushing touchdown this year. He also has an interception for a touchdown on defense.

Washington High is 3-0 on the year. Cantrell carries a 2.5 GPA and has scored a 21 on his ACT. He is undecided on a major. Next up for Maurice and his squad is Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
