Buffs Getting an Early Start on Next Year

The ink from the signatures of the 2004 class is barely dry and the CU staff is already getting started on next year. There is one in-state player they promised a spot to as a grayshirt if he gets his grades in order. If he does not, he will attend Gardent City Community College and come back to CU in two years.

6-2, 205-pound first team all-state linebacker Durrell Williams has been promised a spot with Colorado if he gets his grades.

"Coach Wristen told me that I can come there as a grayshirt if I can get my grades in order. Right now I have a 2.3 core GPA and I received a 3.0 GPA this past semester. If I get a 3.5 GPA this semester and pass my test I will make it. If not I will go to Garden City and come back to CU in a couple of years."

Durrell actually prefers the latter plan.

"It would give me some time to get my grades in order and establish myself more as a football player."

Williams took an unofficial visit to Colorado on the weekend of January 16th.

This year he recorded 95 tackles on defense while also returning an interception 40 yards for a touchdown. He had 10 receptions for 300 yards and five touchdonws on offense at the tight end position. In addition to the first team all-state team for defense, he was named first team all-league for defense and also second team all-league for offense.
