"He is a great blocker with outstanding hands," says Coach Rice. "His route-running is getting better. We use him as a tight end and we split him out as a receiver. So he is very versatile. He is not the fastest guy, but he has good football speed. He is a three-sport star for us here. He is a good Basketball player and he will also be highly sought after as a catcher in Baseball. If he doesn't do anything with Baseball I think he will be a great tight end some day."
"If Colorado is interested, maybe he will sign with them. Coach Barnett was down here last week to find out more about him and some other guys."
Coach Rice admits that Derrick will need some work in the weight room as right now his bench is at 205, his squat at 315, and his clean at 275. He runs a 4.98 40 yard time.
Jon Cooper is a 6-2.5, 258-pound offensive lineman. He cleans 245, benches 305, and squats 395. His 40 time is said to be around a 5.0.
"When Dan Byers came to school here, him and his father put Jon on the Jeff Byers diet. Meaning that we will be doing all the same things for Jon that they did with Jeff to help him along."
Dan Byers will be a sophomore starting linebacker for Fort Collins this year.
Cooper and Catlett also double as defensive ends for Fort Collins.
Buff Country will be catching up with these two for interviews in the near future.
