"We simply couldn't refuse it," said Dave Lucas, Maurice's Father. "They are only supposed to have 12 scholarships for next year so we jumped on it. The decision was made after going up to Junior Day, speaking with the coaches, and touring the facilities."
With the controversy surrounding CU, will they waiver at all if Gary Barnett does not come back as the coach?
"We are fond of Gary, and I think he will be re-instated but we are committed to the school in addition to the coaches."
Maurice spoke of why he committed.
"It is a great place. It is everything I want; the atmosphere, facilities, and just the school mainly."
Lucas plays both ways but he is emphatic about wanting to play defensive end at CU. His Father spoke of his talents at D-end.
"He has ability to read offenses and is sound in his fundamentals. He is also a good tackler."
Maurice's talents are not only on the gridiron, he is a track star as well. Lucas placed fifth in the state in the shot-put last year.
Before committing to CU, he had interest from Nebraska, Oregon, and Kansas State. He was recruited to Colorado by Coach Wristen. He plans on attending one of Colorado's camps this summer and has in years past.
Maurice carries a 3.0 core GPA and is taking his SAT on March 27th and ACT on April 4th. He will major in Mechanical Engineering at CU.
