Pesavento To Start Against Huskers

With a trip to the Big 12 Championship game on the line, the Colorado Buffaloes will go into battle with their back-up quarterback leading the way. With QB Craig Ochs still feeling the effects of a high ankle sprain, senior Bobby Pesavento will get the start against Nebraska on Friday. The game is at 1:30 pm MT at Folsom Field.

Pesavento will make his third straight start, after leading the Buffs to victories over Missouri and Iowa State. Pesavento also replaced Ochs against Oklahoma State when he suffered his current injury, a starined tendon in his ankle. Ochs actually practiced on Thursday, but was very limited in Friday's workout. Ochs said he was only able to drop back at about half speed. Going against the black shirt defense of Nebraska, that's not going to cut it. But the way that Pesavento is playing right now, it may benefit the Buffs to stay with the hot hand. In the 10 quarters that Pesavento has played the past three weeks, he has completed 48 passes for 687 yards and five TDs and only two interceptions. One of his picks was on a deflected pass. At the beginning of the season Pesavento didn't even know if he would see any playing time. Ochs had set numerous CU records as a freshamn and Pesavento settled into his role of back-up. But with all the injuries Ochs has had to deal with this season, Bobby is now the man. Pesavento transfered to CU from Fort Scott Community College in Kansas. Coach Barnett said that junior-college transfer Robert Hoge will be the back-up. Other injury news: - Justin Bannan: (Hamstring) Began acupuncture treatment Weds. ans should be ready to play. - Tyler Brayton: (Ankle) - Robbie Robinson: (ankle) -Drew Wahlroos: (Shoulder) All will resume practicing on Monday and should be ready to play.
