Colorado fans need to always remember the name Maurice Lucas. Even if (this is a giant if with his skills) he never does anything on the field in his career for the Golden Buffaloes he needs to be respected. He bit the bullet and committed to Colorado and Coach Gary Barnett when the University was in complete turmoil and stuck by his commitment throughout the gruesome process. "I think it is a great thing that Barnett got his job back," said Lucas. "I think it is the best thing that they could have done. My parents are real happy about it."

Lucas committed to CU back in early March soon after Barnett had been placed on leave. He and his family never waivered in their decision to have Maurice attend school in Boulder.

"We kept in contact with Coach Wristen throughout the whole thing and he let us know what was going on."

Lucas still receives a few letters from schools here and there but he says he knows where he is going and everyone else seems to know it, too. This summer his only plans as of right now are to attend CU's summer sessions and work hard in the weight room.

What Colorado is getting in Maurice is a player who many say looks like he can strap on the pads right now and play on Folsom Field. He was a second team all-state selection as an offensive tackle and first team all-conference at OT and defensive end. He will major in Mechanical Engineering at CU.
