Buffs in Top Five for Hawaii Linebacker

Wailuku Baldwin (Hi) ILB Kaluka Maiava, (5-11, 215, 4.6) says he figures to make his way to the mainland for college. Colorado is one of his top choices. He says he will camp in Boulder this summer.

Washington (offer) leads slightly. "A lot of people from Hawaii go there," said Maiava. "They're a big-time program. I know (fellow Hawaiians) LB (Joe) Lobendahn and DL Brandon Ala, and they both said they like it there a lot.

"I like Wisconsin too. They a have an awesome reputation and they get a lot of exposure. I know OC Donovan Raiola.

"My family would definitely like to see me stay on the California side (of the country) so they could come and see some of my games.

"I'd like to make my final decision soon, hopefully before the season starts."

The recent Stanford Nike camp ranked Kaluka as the #2 LB in attendance. He will camp this summer at Washington, Utah (offer) and Colorado.

The Buffaloes, Oregon, and USC round out Kaluka's top five. BYU, Arizona, and UTEP have also offered Kaluka.

"I'm best at hitting and finding the ball, never stopping," said Maiava. "I always want to make the solo hit. I try to be like Ray Lewis and play with his intensity. He's always psyched and plays every down like it's his last. I'd like to be better on pass defense, which I think is a little weak."
