Football Support Groups Plan Several Activities

Perhaps more than any in recent memory, hard core Colorado fans are looking forward to the start of Buffaloes football in 2004. Several groups, including the Buff Clubs, 5334 Club, the C-Club and the Buffalo Belles are planning game weekend activities. Follow the link to get the details.

Colorado vs. CSU Rally in Denver
11: 45 a.m., Friday.

The Denver Buff Club is sponsoring a rally featuring Coach Gary Barnett, the CU football captains and assistant coaches on Friday

The rally will be held in the Galleria of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, downtown Denver at 14th and Curtis streets. The doors will open at 11 a.m. on Friday with free hot dogs, Pepsi and Frito-Lay chips available. Merchandise booths, an autograph booth featuring former players and music, cheerleaders and other attractions will also take place.

The rally begins precisely at 11:45 a.m. when MC Larry Zimmer takes the stage. The rally wraps up at 12:15 p.m.

During the rally the Denver Buff Club is recognizing groups who rallied to the side of the football program during the past six months: Buff Defenders, the CU Football Families, the Boulder Buff Club and the Buffalo Belles.

Buff Club Kickoff Luncheon
12:30 p.m. Friday

Immediately following the rally is the Buff Clubs Kickoff Luncheon in the Ballroom of the DCPA. Reservations are required. $25 per person OR a corporate table for 10 for $250 (includes one coach, player or VIP).

Coach Barnett will evaluate the team, introduce the Captains and Assistant Coaches and take questions from the audience.

At the Luncheon, the Denver Buff Club is honoring a prominent media personality who stood tall for CU during the past six months.

New CU play by play broadcaster Mark Johnson will be introduced to the audience by the long-time voice of the Buffs, Larry Zimmer.

The Kickoff Luncheon program will start at 12:30 p.m. and wrap up at 1:30 p.m.

The Denver Buff Club is hosting an after work "pre-game party" Friday afternoon and evening at The Blake Street Tavern, 2401 Blake Street, in LoDo. The Tavern is two blocks North of Coors Field in Downtown Denver. Join friends, fans, alums in getting ready for the big game against CSU the next day. FAC prices! The party starts at 4:00 p.m. and goes AT LEAST until 7:00 p.m.

Colorado – Colorado State Alumni Flag Football Game
1 – 5 p.m. Friday

To kick-off the festivities for the CU Buffs vs. CSU Rams football game, GAAC Sports and the Colorado C-Club will host the Colorado and Colorado State alumni for a "game before the game" flag football extravaganza. Activities will begin at 1 p.m., and the flag game kicks off at 3 p.m. at the CU practice fields north of the stadium on Friday.

Additional activities for spectators will include a field goal challenge, a ping-pong tournament, sports trivia, and a passing challenge. Trivia and field goal challenge winners will win game tickets for two to the Buffs vs. Rams game on Saturday.

The winning flag football team will receive the Alum Cup Trophy, which they will keep until the following year.

Attendance to the event is free and fans on both sides are encouraged to attend and support their team. Tickets for activities can be purchased at the front entrance to the field.

3:20 p.m. Saturday

The 5334 Club, in cooperation with the Buff Clubs, CU Alumni Association, Buff Belles and the C-Club are holding the first-ever game day Tunnel of Fans prior to Saturday's tilt at Folsom Stadium.

Fans are encouraged to meet at the corner of Folsom St. and Stadium Dr. — next to the running statue of Frank Shorter — at 3:20 p.m. sharp, and line Stadium Drive all the way up to the Dal Ward Center.

Players and coaches are scheduled to arrive in team buses at 3:50, and will walk the tunnel of fans en route to the locker room. Word is, players are very excited about the tunnel. Organizers hope to get at least 5,000 fans for the tunnel.
