CU Recruiting Arizona DT the Hardest

Shelley Smith has one current offer and has taken a visit. He was named second team all-region as a defensive tackle last year. Smith says CU is one of two schools recruiting him the hardest and he explains what he likes about Colorado.

"From what I know of the coaching staff, they seem real good," said Smith. "They are a team that does well in football and it is a good school academically. I speak with the coach from there every couple of weeks."

Coach Wristen is after him for the Buffs.

"UTEP and Colorado are recruiting me the hardest. I visited UTEP a couple weeks ago (October 16th) and they have offered. My top schools are Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Arizona State, and UTEP. I am still in the process of evaluating all of them so I don't really have a favorite."

Schools tell Smith they like him on both sides of the ball and he does not have a position of preference.

He says he will schedule the rest of his visits after the season.

The lineman feels he has learned a lot playing for Avondale and its coaches. "We have good coaches at my school that have helped me a lot. The training routine we use at Westview has really benefited me."

He was unsure of his core GPA but said he scored a 21 on his ACT. Smith would like to major in Sports Medicine or Business.

4-5 Avondale takes on Tolleson, this Friday.
