Buffaloes In
Big 12 Title Game

Colorado coaches had planned to spend the following week on the recruiting trail. Those plans will have to wait. With Missouri's improbable overtime win over Iowa State Saturday afternoon, Colorado has won the Big 12 North and will face Oklahoma in the conference championship game Dec. 4.

If the Cyclones had beaten Missouri Saturday, they would have earned the right to play OU in the title game. But the Missouri win put CU in a tie in the division with Iowa State. Colorado beat Iowa State 19-14 on Oct. 16, and the Buffs win the tiebreaker, which is determined by head-to-head competition.

Iowa State and Missouri slugged it out in Ames Saturday in cold and windy conditions. With the game tied at 14 a piece, it looked as though Iowa State would win as the Cyclones lined up for a 25-yard field goal. But ISU walk-on kicker Bret Culbertson missed the kick.

After Missouri converted a field goal in the overtime period, the Tigers intercepted a pass in the end zone to preserve the 17-14 win.

Next Saturday's Big 12 Championship game takes place at 6 p.m. (MT) on ABC-TV at Kansas City, Mo.

It will mark the third time in four years the Buffs have played in the title game, and the second time in three years they've faced the Sooners.
