Compton CC RB Wants to be a Buff

Thomas Perez of Compton Community College rushed for 768 yards and 14 touchdowns as a true freshman this fall. As a senior at Lynnwood High in Lynnwood, California he was a first team all-CIF selection after rushing for 927 yards and 22 touchdowns. He states that Colorado is the school he has always wanted to attend. Perez stands at 6-2, 215 and claims 4.4 speed.

Perez was a force from the second he stepped on campus at Compton CC. He has been many places the last few years. Before he transferred to Lynwood High he had spent a year at Compton Dominguez High. Perez may have saved his best high school performance for last in his senior year against Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. He rushed for four touchdowns against the eventual, and still, league champions in a semi-final playoff game.

Compton head coach Cornell Ward has stated that Perez could be a summer graduate in 2005, but the running back tells a different story. "I plan on getting my AA degree and graduating in December of this year," he explains. "I also want to play this year so I will have three to play two wherever I go."

As of right now, he knows where he would like to end up. "Colorado is my favorite. I have wanted to go there for a long time. I really think they like running backs like me and I would fit in well there. I definitely want to take a trip to see what they are about as soon as possible."

Perez believes he would be a good fit at CU because he is a big back and the Buffs have had success with those types in recent years. "I am a big, powerful back with a lot of speed. I also have quickness and can make people miss. I catch the ball real well out of the backfield."

Other schools he is interested in include Arizona State, Hawaii, Oregon, and Boise State.
