Coach's Corner: Cedric Cormier of Channelview HS

Channelview High School assistant coach Cedric Cormier talks about Colorado verbal commit Marcus Burton.

Former Colorado Buffalo Cedric Cormier serves as receivers coach for Channelview High, a school 15 minutes east of Houston, Texas. CHS struggled to a 1-9 record this season, but Cormier said one constant positive about the team was the play of outside linebacker Marcus Burton.

Once a verbal commit to Washington State, Burton has pledged to the Buffs and is scheduled to be in Boulder this weekend on an official visit.

Here's what Cormier said about Burton, the 6-1, 220-pound outside linebacker prospect.

In General
He's been a real impact player. His first two years in high school he was a defensive end. His freshman year he had 22 sacks. But he always wanted to be a linebacker.

His junior year he was kind of overweight. But he lost a lot of weight and got down to bout 220 pounds this year. He was just a force all over the field this year.

He has a strong work ethic. He's one of those kids that's the first one to get out there on the practice field and the last one to leave. He's always running extra sprints. He's a real self-motivated kid.

He runs on the track team, the 400 and 200.

CHS was 1-9 on the season
But we had him and two other guys that were stand outs. He was the main stand out on the defense. We didn't do too good as a team, but he didn't have a bad game.

Q: What is it about Colorado that Marcus likes?
He's always been interested in Colorado. First of all, he would love to play in the Big 12. That was a big key for him; for his parents to be able to seem him play against the Big 12 South teams.

Q: Did he engage you in conversations about Colorado?
Throughout the year he would inquire about how Colorado was doing. He followed the Big 12 like a true Big 12 junkie. We would always talk about Colorado
