Paul Backowski hails from a state, Minnesota, where every top player Colorado has gone after the last few years has signed elsewhere. That could all be changing with this offensive lineman. "My trip to Boulder was awesome," said Backowski. "They have a great group of coaches there and everything I want in a program. They don't play for the Motor City Bowl there. They win the North Championship and then play for the Big 12 Championship and National Championships. Coach Borbely is a great coach. I think they he could move my future right along.
"They play schools like Texas A&M and Nebraska every year. It is just a great all-around environment that I would love to be a part of. Coach Barnett is coming to my house Wednesday night and I am excited to speak with him."
Backowski also has offers from Minnesota, Indiana, and Wyoming. He is supposed to visit Minnesota and Indiana over the next couple of weekends. "We'll see what happens and if I even take those visits."
The lineman was named first team all-conference, area, and state as a senior. As a junior, he was named second team all-state.
Backowski competes in the shotput where he finished 12th in the state as a sophomore and 6th as a junior. His personal best is a 55'1.
He describes his strengths on the field. "I have good speed getting off the line. I make good use of my leverage."
Backowski carries a 3.3 core GPA and scored a 23 on his ACT. He would like to major in Business.
