Bruce Plasket in BSN Sunday Chat

Former Longmont Daily Times-Call reporter Bruce Plasket covered the so-called CU recruiting scandal last spring. He was also granted behind-the-scenes access to the Buffs in the fall and wrote a weekly series about what he encountered. Plasket is currently writing a book about both experiences. He will be in BSN's weekly chat at 8 p.m. this Sunday. Inside, more details.

As a metro bureau reporter for the Daily Times-Call, Plasket covered the lawsuit brought on the University of Colorado by Lisa Simpson in 2002, and later joined by Anne Gilmore. Both plaintiffs claim they were raped at a party in Dec. 7, 2001, attended by CU student-athletes and football recruits.

On Feb. 27, 2004, the Daily Times-Call published Plasket's story (linked at bottom of page) that revealed the connection made between a PR firm hired by the plaintiffs' lawyers and the local media, a connection Plasket contends drove the so-called recruiting scandal coverage by most local and national news outlets.

Plasket continued reporting on the lawsuit and issues surrounding it in the spring and summer. In August, he approached CU football coach Gary Barnett about writing a series of stories that detailed what goes on inside the football team on a weekly basis. His behind-the-scenes series was titled "Third and Long" and appeared in the Daily Times-Call. Plasket now lives in New Meixco where he is writing a book on the so-called scandal and his experience following the team in 2004.

Plasket will be a guest in the weekly Buffalo Sports News chat session at 8 p.m. (MT), Jan. 30. Chat is open to all subscribers.
