Burney Signs With Colorado

Just a couple days before signing day, Colorado received a surprise commit from Denver Mullen safety Ben Burney. We caught up with Ben this morning at Mullen High School's Signing Day Ceremony.

What ultimately made you decide to commit to the University of Colorado?

"I like that they really wanted me. They kept in contact with me the whole time and made it known how much they wanted me to come to CU. It will also feel good to play close to home, to be near my family and friends."

Who were your primary recruiters at CU?

"Coach Bray and Coach Wristen."

When did you commit to CU and tell me about the recruiting process.

"I committed to CU two nights ago. CU was in contact with me the whole time. They were in on some other safeties so they weren't sure there was going to be a spot for me. They called me and asked me to come visit and it ended up working out in the end."

Did you take any other visits or have other offers?

"I took a visit to Virginia. They didn't offer."

Has CU talked to you about grey-shirting?

"Yes they have. A few of they guys they're signing today aren't qualified. If they don't make it they'll have a spot for me in the Fall."

Have the coaches talked to you about what position you'll play?

"Yes, they're brining me in as a safety. That's position I'm most comfortable at."

What are your goals for your time at CU?

"I want to mature as a person and become a better man. I want to prepare myself to go out into the world and make a difference. I want to contribute to the football and be a vital part of making this program a success."

How does it feel to sign your letter of intent today?

"Man it feels good. This was a long process and I'm glad it ended the way I wanted it to."
