Juniors to Watch: Montbello

Montbello High in Denver is becoming a factory of top talent in the Colorado prep ranks. They sent three players to Big 12 schools last year and look to have many more recruitable players this cycle. Former CU assistant coach Oliver Lucas fills the BSN in on who he has stockpiled for this season.

Lucas says he has as many as six players this year that will get attention.

Victor York is a 6-4, 265-pound offensive lineman that runs the 40 in the 4.9 to 5.0 range. "He is a player that is just now starting to grow into his own," says Lucas. "I think Victor is a real specimen."

R.J. Sanders is a 6-0, 190-pound running back with 4.4 speed. "He played behind (Texas bound) Michael Houston last year and had a great year for us. He is everything you want in a running back. He reminds me of two former players I coached at Colorado; JJ Flannigan and Eric Bieniemy. He comes from a good home and is a stellar player."

Chris Smith is a 6-4, 200-pound quarterback that saw spot-duty last year but still threw for seven touchdowns. "He is a big-time player. He is mechanically sound and is really maturing. Chris is also a basketball player so he has never focused totally on football, but if he does he'll be special."

Marcus Jones is a 6-1, 245-pound linebacker prospect. "He is just an all-around tough player. Marcus is strong as a bull. I see him as a middle linebacker in the future."

Josh Wilson is a 5-9, 170-pound cornerback prospect. "He is a great cover corner. He just will not be beat. He has great feet and good hips. Josh just refuses to be beat."

The crown jewel of the class is defensive end Greg Banks. Lucas says that Banks already has offers from UCLA, Nebraska and Iowa State. "He is outstanding on and off the field. He is a stellar individual with great leadership qualities. He has an excellent worth ethic and can really run. Greg reminds me of (former Colorado Mackey award winner and current New England Patriot) Dan Graham, but he is a bit bigger. He will play on Sundays."

Montbello will be camping at Iowa State this summer. They camped at Nebraska last summer.

As good as Jarrell Yates, Michael Houston and Greg Banks are, Lucas believes that his most special player may be coming next year. Andrew Davis is a 6-2, 195-pound receiver that has a 4.4 40. "He is the next (former USC wide receiver) Mike Williams. Andrew is incredibly fast and strong."
