SoCal Defender Has Buffs in Top Three

Devin Johnson played on the other side of's no.2 defensive end in the nation last recruiting cycle, Averell Spicer. The plan for the opposition at the beginning of the season was to run away from Spicer and run at Johnson's side. That plan changed abruptly when Johnson began shutting down whatever came towards him. He recently received his first written offer and has the Buffs in his top three. The defender has been receiving handwritten letters from Coach Barnett.

"Coach Barnett has been sending me stuff telling me that he'll be watching me and to keep my grades up," said Devin Johnson. "I have also called and spoken with Coach Cabral. I do not know too much about Colorado at this point. I do know they have always had a good football team and it is a good school."

Johnson recently received his first offer from Arizona. "My top schools are Arizona, UCLA and Colorado. I guess you could also throw USC and Oregon State in there. But the first ones I mentioned are my top three. I'd say UCLA is my favorite."

As a junior, he had 77 tackles, 10 sacks, three blocked punts, and three blocked field goals. On offense, he had one rush for a 10 yard touchdown. Johnson was named first team all-county and CIF.

"I am very quick and I never stop on a play. I am a strong player."

The defender believes that his future may be at outside linebacker rather than defensive end. "I may end up being too small for d-end. I have been told my future is most likely as a linebacker."

He plans on attending the full Oregon State camp and USC's junior day.

Johnson carries a 2.2 core GPA and will be taking the ACT soon. He would like to major in Graphic Arts.
