Colorado Offers First Quarteback

Under Coach Gary Barnett, Colorado has had the philosophy that you take at least one running back and quarterback every class. Holding true to form, Colorado looks to grab one signal caller for the class of 2006. The first quarterback they have extended a wriiten offer to has been located. Alex Cate of Salt Lake City, Utah received his CU offer at the beginning of this month. He gives his thoughts on the Colorado program.

"I have written offers from Nebraska, Arizona, Colorado, and Kansas," said Alex Cate. "I am looking at those schools and I also like Georgia, Iowa and Cal. Nebraska and Arizona are the ones I am looking at the hardest right now.

"I have been speaking with coach (Nebraska Head Coach Bill) Callahan at Nebraska and coach (Offensive Coordinator Mike) Canales at Arizona. I like a lot of the same things about those programs. They both have good coaches and they are both on their way back to the top."

Colorado is a school he is starting to look into more. "I have always liked the Colorado program. I have talked to a lot of people that have good things to say about it. It is a nice place. I am getting in contact with their coaches tomorrow (today)."

As a junior, Cate threw for 3586 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in completing 196 out of 379 attempts. He also had one rushing touchdown. Cate was named first team all-state. "I read defenses well so I can recognize a lot of things. I have good feet and am technically sound."

Cate will attend a combine in May, and also plans on attending a camp at Georgia. "I am not sure about any others right now."

His father played for Utah, but the Utes do not appear to have a shot at him. "I have spoken with the coaches there and they are nice, but I am really looking to go out-of-state. My father played for Utah. My parents are mainly leaving this decision up to me."

He carries a 3.3 core GPA just took the ACT. Cate would like to major in Business.
