As a junior, Jon Tobin threw for 1,600 yards and 13 touchdowns. He rushed for 255 yards and ten touchdowns. He threw 11 interceptions and had a 42 percent completion rate. Tobin was named second team all-region. "I love being competitive," he says. "I hate to settle for second because if you do that, you have lost. My coach says I am a great leader. I love getting dirty out on the field. I always play hard."
The signal caller has only been playing tackle football for three years so he has a lot of upside. Last year was his first as a starter although he has been playing varsity ball since his freshman year.
Scout.com caught up with Tobin Monday night after he had just received his first call from a college this month. "I just got off the phone with Wyoming. They are showing me a lot of interest right now."
The Cowboys are on his top schools' list with four others. "I like them, UTEP, Arizona, New Mexico State, and Colorado. I don't have a favorite right now. They are all sending me a lot of mail."
Schools to come by Cactus this month include Nevada, Oregon, UCLA, Colorado, and Arizona State.
He likes CU's offense and is excited about the upcoming trip to Boulder. "They are a good program that I really look forward to seeing. The last couple of years when I have watched them I cannot figure out if they are a running or passing team. But, it looks like now they are going towards more of a passing offense and that is what I would like to be in."
This summer, he will attend one-day camps at Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State. Tobin will also be in attendance Saturday at the Scout.com All-American Combine in Los Angeles.
He carries a 2.7 core GPA and took the SAT over the weekend. Tobin would like to major in Fire Science or Law.
