40 time: 4.64
From: Denver, Colorado
High School: Mullen
Rick Brewer performed well at the combine running a 4.64 40, which is good for a linebacker. He also showed nice leaps with a 33-inch vertical. Other times included a 8.0 three-cone drill and a 4.53 shuttle. In the one-on-ones, he showed nice coverage skills.
The BSN caught up with Brewer during one of the breaks and he gave us the news of his possible commitment within the next two weeks. "I am visiting CSU, and then I will probably make my decision in the next couple of weeks," he explained. "I am leaning towards Colorado right now."
Five days after that conversation, we caught up with Brewer and his tune has changed a little after a great trip to Fort Collins. "I didn't know what to expect from the trip, but I had a great time. It is really similar to CU. I like the coaches and I like the environment there. The only thing better at CU is the facilities. Everything else is pretty much the same."
His parents have also picked their favorites. "My dad likes CSU more because he says there is more of a 'home' feel to it and he thinks I can focus more. He likes small towns because he is from one growing up in Grapevine, Texas.
"My mom likes CU more because she thinks it's a better fit for my personality. I am more of an out-going person and she thinks I would fit in well there. We have been discussing the two schools everyday this week. My trip to CSU has made me want to extend when I might commit. I have more to think about now. But, I do kind of want to play in the Big 12 or the Big 10 so I still like CU a little more. It is only between those two schools at this point. I am going to play it out a little."
CU is recruiting Brewer at the 'Buff' linebacker position currently manned by Brian Iwuh.
The BSN will stay with this developing situation.
