Sleeper Could Emerge This Fall

Ben Thiltges missed his entire junior season with a torn ACL. He also had to have surgery on both shoulders. Before all of this, he impressed the Arizona State staff enough to receive an offer the summer before his junior season. He claims to be back to 100 percent now and says he has been hearing from Colorado.

"Everything is fine with me now," explained Ben Thiltges. "All of my surgeries went well and I am 100 percent."

Thiltges has been working out very hard this summer and increased all of his measurements to beyond where they were before his injuries. The main schools he is hearing from include Nevada, Colorado, UCLA, Oregon, Utah, and Arizona State. "My top schools are Arizona State, Nevada, Utah and Colorado.

"I have been to Boulder before and it is a real nice place. The coach from Colorado came down here in May (Darian Hagan) and right after that visit he wrote me a letter and called me. He seems like a nice guy. I would like to take a visit there, if possible."

The only school currently discussing official visit possibilities with Thiltges is Nevada. "They are recruiting me the hardest."

Arizona State did have an offer on the table, and is still interested. "They are just waiting to see what happens my senior year. Every school wants to see how I bounce back this year."

Salpointe Head Coach Dennis Bene previously told Scout.com his thoughts on Thiltges. "Ben is the hardest working player I have ever had. He has an incredible natural instinct for the game and he just outworks everyone. He is an overachiever. He has great hands as a tight end, but I think he'll be a linebacker in college."

Thiltges carries a 3.5 core GPA and scored an 1170 on the old version of the SAT.

The Lancers get their season underway versus Tucson Cienega.
