JC Safety Visiting for A&M Game

Colorado is apparently looking for help from the JC ranks for the defensive backfield. The pass defense has improved greatly from last season, but the safety and corner positions are as thin as the Boulder air. Coach Bray has been showing a lot of attention in Matthew Harper from CC of San Francisco, and Harper will visit CU this weekend. The safety prospect is the son of former pro player, Willie Harper.

Height: 6-0

Bench: 365
From: San Francisco, California
College: City College of San Francisco

As a freshman at CC of San Francisco, Matthew Harper had 90 tackles, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. Harper was named first team all-league. As a senior at James Logan HS in Union City, California, he had 60 tackles, four interceptions and was named first team all-league. He will graduate in December and will show up at his school of choice in the spring of '06 with three years to play two.

He could play at free safety or corner in college. "Right now I am playing safety and that is where I prefer to play," he says. "But, I can also play corner. Most schools like me at free safety. I am a real smart player. I always know where to be and am in the right position. I am a safety that covers like a corner since I have played both positions."

Coach Bray is telling Harper he likes him at free safety. "We talk once a week. They have not offered me yet, but I am visiting there this weekend. I like Colorado because they have a good program and offer a good education."

Harper does not have any offers yet, and has not scheduled any other visits. "Oregon and UNLV want me to visit so I will probably do that. I am looking at Cal, Colorado, Nebraska, and Oregon - those are the main ones."

The DB says that Oregon and Colorado are showing the most attention.

On the season, he has 45 tackles, three interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Harper would like to major in Business.
