High School: Rancho Verde
As a junior, Jonathan Hawkins had 90 tackles, 15 pass break-ups and one interception. Hawkins was named first team all-league. This year, through four games, he has 15 tackles, and four pass break-ups.
Hawkins is being recruited as a corner and prefers to play there. He is also seeing some time this year at free and strong safety. "I have a great break on the ball because I am good at reading receivers' hips," he says. "I like to come up on the run and hit. I actually prefer tackling over getting interceptions. I always cover the best wide receiver on the other team."
Coach Cabral is after Hawkins for the Buffs and CU is the current favorite. "I love the atmosphere there and they offer a great education. Coach Bray and I are on the same page. We both know what we want in a defensive back. We both like the cover three scheme. He likes the style I play with. I am an aggressive corner and the staff there knows that."
CU is also the favorite of his parents. "They like Colorado right now because they really like Coach Cabral and his attitude. They think he will take care of me if I go there."
Is there a chance for a commitment if the corner likes what he sees in Boulder this weekend? "There is a slight chance I could commit, but I will probably wait to see some other places."
Colorado is the lone offer for Hawkins at this point. "Fresno State says they might offer after they see some senior film and I am going there for a visit on December 17th."
Hawkins carries a 3.8 core GPA and scored a 1450 on the SAT. He would like to major in Kinesiology.
