School: Brewster Academy
"It went real good. I went to two practices and we went out to eat and toured the campus," Silas said of his visit to Colorado. "It's a real nice campus. It's one of the top campuses in the Big 12."
Silas hung out with CU sophomore Richard Roby, who, like Silas, prepped in the northeast. Roby's Lawrence Academy, in Groton, Mass., plays in the C league, while Silas' Brewster Academy plays in the A league in northeast prep schools.
"We got to know each other pretty good," Silas said of spending time with Roby this past weekend.
How close is Silas to making a decision?
"It's possible that I will commit to Colorado (in the early Nov. 7-10 signing period). But I haven't decided yet," Silas said.
Brewster Academy coach Jason Smith says Silas, "has a very high basketball IQ. What separates him probably from his peers is his mid-range game. It's kind of a lost art these days. A lot of times kids are focused on their athleticism or they just want to shoot the three ball. And Xavier is somebody who has a great mid-range game and an understanding of how to play the game of basketball."
Silas' father, James Silas, played 10 years in the ABA and NBA.
Xavier Silas graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas, but went the prep school route because he won't be 18 until January 2006.
