Colorado is in need of big men for its 2006 class. Six-foot-10, 240-pound center Sean Kowal of St. Louis (DeSmet HS), who committed the Buffs this week, fits that bill.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Sean Kowal
contacted the Colorado coaching staff earlier this month. The Buffs, who have eight scholarships to give for the 2006 class, (although one of those will go to transfer Jermyl Jackson-Wilson
) had verbal commitments from four players, all 6-foot-7 or under. Now, it appears the Buffs have a legitimate low-post player in the growing class of commits.
Kowal took a visit to Boulder last weekend, and committed to CU.
"Colorado had everything I wanted, everything I was looking for in a school," he told the Post-Dispatch.
Kowal led DeSmet High to a district title in 2005. He was an All-Metro Catholic Conference honorable mention player as a junior, when he averaged 7.6 points and 5.7 boards per game. ShowtimeBasketball.com voted him the preseason most underrated player in the MCC this year.
Kowal told the Post-Dispatch he was also considering Austin Peay, St. Louis U, Ball State, Tennessee and Albany.
