Buffs Add Another To Women's Hoops Class

On Thursday, CU head coach Kathy McConnell-Miller announced that Candace Rucker, from Memphis, Tenn., has signed a Letter of Intent to play for the Buffs. Rucker joins fellow Memphis prepster Whitney Houston, and Aija Putnina of Aurora, in CU's class.

Candace Rucker, G, 5-10
Northside High School, Memphis, Tenn.
Rucker averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds and six assists per game as a junior at Northside. An all-district, all-region and all-state performer, Rucker led Northside to a 28-5 record in 2004-05, advancing to the state quarterfinals. She earned a spot on the Memphis Commercial Appeal's Best of the Preps/All-Metro Class AAA team as a junior and was picked as this winter's preseason player of the year. Rucker is ranked as the 36th best guard in the country by the All-Star Girls Report and is listed as the No. 1 prep senior in Memphis by memphishoopers.com.

Kathy McConnell-Miller: "Candace has the ability to impact our program at both ends of the floor. Offensively, she is explosive. She has great range. She can shoot from the perimeter or score off the bounce. Candace can create in transition yet has the ability to break down defenses. Defensively, she will allow us to pressure the length of the floor. She anticipates well and can create turnovers. Candace is the complete package. We are fortunate to have signed a player of her caliber."

The Buffs can give five scholarships in the early signing period, which lasts through Nov. 16. However, McConnell-Miller said earlier this fall she wasn't certain the Buffs would use all of their available scholarships.
