Colorado 116, Savannah State 52

The Buffs ran past Savannah State 116-52 Tuesday night, a final tune-up before Saturday's game at Texas.

Colorado won the opening tip and Marcus Hall hit Jayson Obazuaye for an alley-oop dunk. On Savannah's first possession, Tigers guard Joseph Flegler bounced a pass off a teammates' leg out of bounds.

And that was all she wrote.

This one got out of hand so quickly, the band started chanting for walk-on Billy Boidock to enter the game at the 19:23 mark …of the first half. But because the Buffs face Texas on the road Saturday, Ricardo Patton didn't substitute early as liberally as he had in the team's previous two games, vs. Mercer and Dartmouth.

In the end, however, 11 players had double-figures in minutes and seven scored at least 10 points in the route.

The game was one of those personality tests. Either you're the type of person who wanted to see Colorado build in its 51-point halftime lead, or you're one of those people who felt badly for the hapless Savannah State players and hoped Colorado would call off the dogs.

Colorado beat what's very likely the worst team in Division I basketball. Savannah State is 1-66 in its last 67 games, it's lone win coming this season against NAIA Wilberforce.

Afterwards, Patton said he gave his 10-1 Buffs an A- for its non-conference effort. CU's only loss came by one point at Colorado State.

When asked if he was concerned a game against the likes of Savannah State isn't good enough preparation for Saturday's conference opener at Texas, Patton said, "If this had been the only game we played to prepare for Texas, I'd be concerned. But since we played the whole schedule we did, I'm not concerned."

Senior Glean Eddy led CU with 17 points and nine boards. Andy Osborn scored 15 points, all from beyond the arc. The game was one of those personality tests. Either you're the type of person who wanted to see Colorado build in its 51-point halftime lead, or you're one of those people who felt badly for the hapless Savannah State players and hoped Colorado would call off the dogs.

The Buffs set a Coors Events Center record for margin of victory (64 points).
