Smith Scheduled for Boulder

James Smith is one of the most versatile athletes in Southern California. He was a first team all-league performer on both sides of the ball this past season. Smith is currently committed to Washington State but will be visiting Colorado next weekend. He is ranked as the No.68 cornerback prospect in the nation.

As a senior, James Smith had 53 catches for 1,123 yards and 14 touchdowns. On defense, he had 47 tackles, 10 pass deflections and two interceptions. Smith was named first team all-conference at receiver and first team all-league both ways. As a junior, Smith totaled 47 tackles along with two interceptions, a fumble recovery and an 11.4 yard average on punt returns. The leading receiver on offense, he had 1,083 receiving yards on 45 receptions and was third on the team in scoring and in all-purpose yards with an average of 112 yards a game. "I have great size and speed and the ability to deliver the hits," Smith said.

Smith committed to the Cougars last week but he is not necessarily done with the process. "I am going to Colorado next weekend and Hawaii the weekend after.

"Coach (Greg) Brown from Colorado just called me today and said he is excited to get me out there for a visit. Right now, I don't know much about them so I am interested to see what they have to offer when I take my visit. They like me as a corner and I am cool with that. I had taken a trip to Boise before so I am familiar with Coach Hawkins and he called just to say he is still excited about me and can't wait to get me there on a trip."

All schools like Smith as a defensive back, most at safety.

Smith had written offers from Boise State, Colorado State, Hawaii, Nebraska, Nevada, and UNLV before committing to WSU.

The Cougars' staff is aware of Smith taking trips. Most CU fans remember that Marcus Burton was a Washington State commit last year before taking a trip to Boulder and opting for the Buffs.

The BSN will catch up with Smith after the trip next weekend for his thoughts.
